As a Deputy Manager, you will join our client’s newly Ofsted registered solo homes in Southport. You will play a crucial role in overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring high standards of care and compliance.

Are you the right person for the job?

  • Essential: 2 years’ experience with Children/Young People in residential settings, incl. 2 years at a senior level, knowledge of Ofsted Regulations
  • Minimum Level 4 Diploma in Children’s Residential Services or equivalent, with staff supervision, meeting attendance, and report preparation experience
  • A Full UK Driving Licence is required
  • Enhanced Disclosure check required
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Relevant experience in residential care management is essential

What will your role look like?

Leadership and Decision Making:

  • Assume responsibility for administrative and childcare functions in the absence of the Registered Manager
  • Prioritize decisions effectively, adhering to company and regulatory expectations
  • Uphold company philosophy and policies while maintaining confidentiality

Staff Supervision and Childcare Practices:

  • Guide staff on care standards and regulatory compliance
  • Supervise staff, encouraging accountability and effective assessment and planning for each child
  • Maintain comprehensive casework records and ensure the implementation of specific care plans
  • Demonstrate exemplary childcare practices to set a positive example for the team

Participation in Case Conferences and Reviews:

  • Attend and contribute to case conferences, reviews, and planning meetings
  • Compile written reports and actively seek the views of children, ensuring their voices are heard
  • Assist in administrative tasks as required by the Registered Manager

Administrative and Management Support:

  • Carry out delegated tasks and assist staff in their administrative duties
  • Oversee administrative functions in the absence of the Registered Manager
  • Contribute to staff management, development, and training initiatives
  • Ensure personal training is up to date and contribute to the company’s childcare practices

Communication and Resource Management:

  • Disseminate information and instructions to the staff team effectively
  • Contribute to service planning and provision, including budget oversight and recruitment
  • Support home monitoring and quality assurance processes

General Duties:

  • Perform additional tasks as requested by the Registered Manager
  • Act as a driver/escort for young people and undertake sleeping-in duties as required

Post Title: Residential Care Worker (RCW) £12.75 / £14.00 per hour

Responsible To: Registered Manager, Deputy Manager and Team Leaders.

Liaison With: All residential employee’s / staff.

Overall Responsibilities:

1. Primary:

1.1 To play a role in the establishment, maintenance, and development of the environment and climate of the home, thus providing children with a calm and relaxed group living experience conducive to emotional security and personal happiness and growth.

1.2 To become fully conversant with the company’s philosophy and policies.

1.3 To be actively involved in planning and participating in the homes recreational and social programme and engage individuals and groups in constructive, enterprising, and socially extending range of leisure pursuits.

1.4 To respect and maintain the confidential nature of the work.

2. Children’s Care:

2.1 To establish good relationships with children based on confidence, trust, understanding and mutual respect, setting a good example to all staff.

2.2 To encourage children to maintain socially acceptable standards of behaviour.

2.3 To provide all children with guidance and counselling of a personal and social nature.

2.4 To take a share of responsibility for the safe supervision of children by exercising adequate control.

2.5 To be responsible as Key worker for young people undertaking casework, report writing and initiating and implementing individual care plans.

4. Assessment, Recording and Reporting:

4.1 To make full use of the company’s mechanisms to record children’s progress and development.

4.2 To contribute towards accurate report writing as required.

4.3 To attend and contribute to the Annual Multi-disciplinary Review, care planning or other meetings as required.

5. Resources:

5.1 To make effective and efficient use of the resources available within the home and to be aware of resources provided by the company and those within the community.

5.2 To maintain the orderliness of the children’s living areas and social areas and clean such areas in emergencies.

6. Management, Organisation and Administration:

6.1 To monitor objectively the quality of relationships between children, between staff and children and between staff with the constant aim of improvement.

6.2 To ensure that full and complete casework records of children’s progress are maintained in respect of all the children that you provide care for.

7. General Duties:

7.1 To perform any other reasonable task that the Registered Manager or his / her appointed Deputy / Team Leader may ask from time to time.

7.2 To act as driver and / or escort transporting children to and from school, on shopping trips, appointments, and activities.

7.3 To perform sleeping-in duties as required.

Any issues or concerns are reported to their Designated Safeguarding Lead or any Deputy Safeguarding Lead. In the Children’s homes, where the Designated Safeguarding Lead or the deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead is not available, and then it would be reported to the senior on duty.

This job description will be reviewed at least once per year and may be subject to amendment or modification at any time after consultation with the post holder. Rates & Benefits:

Hourly Rate:

  • No experience and during probation – £12.75 per hour
  • After passed probation period – £13.00
  • Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Children`s Residential – £13.50
  • Level 4 Diploma in Children`s Residential – £14.00

Sleep In Rate: £60

Rota patterns are: 2 days on, three days off:

  • 08.00 – 23:00, sleep in – although this is subject to change, dependent upon the needs of the service.
